(15.05.2020) The Internationale der Kriegsdienstgegner*innen (IDK), a German based section of War Resisters’ International (WRI) in London, supports conscientious objectors and deserters worldwide and demands to grant asylum in Germany for those who refuse. (15.05.2020) It was in the Soviet Union in 1981. We had a general conscription system as we still have it in Russia today. But at that time we didn’t have an “alternative service”. Every young man had to pay the state by sacrificing his blood and his freedom for two or three years. Furthermore the war in Afghanistan had been going on since 1979, and the enlisted soldiers were sent straight to this war.
