Asylum for those who refuse the war in Ukraine

(02.03.2022) The Union of Conscientious Objection Finland condemns Russia’s war in Ukraine in violation of international law. The Union is concerned that, according to several sources, Russia has used not only contract soldiers but also ordinary conscripts to attack.

Finland: Total objector Otto Absetz imprisoned

(01.09.2016) Finnish total objector Otto Absetz began a sentence of 99 days imprisonment on Tuesday, 30th August. Otto's refusal is based on the fact the current Finnish legislation on conscription is discriminating and puts people to different position on basis of their sex and religion.

End Finnish Conscription and Imprisonment of Conscientious Objectors

(13.01.2015) Finland is one of the last remaining countries in Europe that still has conscription. Finnish society and national culture are very militaristic and conscription is upheld primarily because of militaristic values and traditions. Even the armed forces admit they don't need all the conscripts and the size of reserve forces was cut by about 1/3, from 350 000 to 230.000 active reserve troops.
