Oral statement on the human rights of conscientious objectors and to conscientious objection and asylum

UN Human Rights Council, 57th Session

(20.09.2024) This morning, Zaira Zafarana, Connection’s international advocacy coordinator, delivered an oral statement on behalf of WRI and Connection e.V. in the plenary of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva during the General Debate on Item 3: Promotion and protection of all human rights, civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. She focused on the human right of conscientious objection to military service and specifically on the OHCHR thematic report presented to the Council during the last session and on the UNHCR Guidelines on International protection which clarify that conscientious objectors who are at risk of persecutions in their country of origin qualify for refugee status.

Stellungnahme zu Kriegsdienstverweigerung sowie Kriegsdienstverweigerung und Asyl

UN Menschenrechtsrat, 57. Sitzung

(20.09.2024) Heute Morgen gab Zaira Zafarana, Fachberaterin für Internationales bei Connection e.V., im Namen von WRI und Connection e.V. eine mündliche Erklärung im Plenum des UN-Menschenrechtsrates in Genf während der Generaldebatte zu Punkt 3 ab: Förderung und Schutz aller Menschenrechte, der bürgerlichen, politischen, wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und kulturellen Rechte. Sie konzentrierte sich auf das Menschenrecht der Kriegsdienstverweigerung und insbesondere auf den thematischen Bericht des OHCHR, der dem Rat während der letzten Sitzung vorgelegt wurde, sowie auf die UNHCR-Richtlinien zum internationalen Schutz, die klarstellen, dass Kriegsdienstverweigerer, die in ihrem Herkunftsland von Verfolgung bedroht sind, den Flüchtlingsstatus erhalten können.

(11.07.2024) In May 2024, Zaira Zafarana began her work in Connection e.V. as international advocacy coordinator. Her consultancy is aimed to advocate for human rights and in particular for the human right to conscientious objection to military service at the United Nations in Geneva, the Council of Europe, and the European Union.
